HEAD HEART AND SOUL GROUP CONSULTANTS

TRISH SCOTT

Teacher, Author, Counselling Facilitator
HSC, CADC, ICADC(ret)

Trish Scott Trish received her Human Services Counsellor designation in 1988, graduating with honours and 3,000 clinical hours under her belt. Her first job was working in a poor crime ridden area of Toronto as one of the first two addiction counsellors hired in the area. It provided her with a profound appreciation for the multiple challenges faced by families and youth when the odds are stacked against them.

She then pursued her CADC and ICADC designations respectively. Then Trish became an evaluator for others seeking this designation (Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor).

Her work experience includes front line work in addiction agencies, which included working with street youth in Downtown Toronto. Eventually she found herself in the criminal justice field, working with individuals who had complex issues relating to antisocial behavior. Her work included a strong focus on domestic violence, criminal behavior and substance use. Before relocating to another area of Ontario she was doing 1:1 work with clients considered too dangerous for group work.

This clinical work eventually brought Trish to the Addiction Studies Program at Centennial College in Toronto, Ontario where she began teaching in 1993. She became Program Supervisor in 1996 and maintained that position until 2010
Through all of this Trish developed the “Head Heart and Soul” Approach to Counselling, which she has taught to addiction agencies, organizations and individuals across the country.

She has also maintained a private practice for the past 10 years. As well she has authored three books based on her model; The Head, Heart and Soul Approach to Counselling:

  • Book 1: Introduction to Counselling
  • Book 2: Individual Counselling
  • Book 3: Family and Group Counselling

She is currently residing in Central Ontario, Canada with her life and business partner Brian Smith. She continues her private practice to this day. As well she hopes to publish more work in the near future.

Mission Statement

It is the intention of the Head, Heart & Soul Approach to Addiction Counselling that it will broaden our appreciation for the challenges our clients have faced.  It teaches us to truly greet each client knowing they are unique and worthy of our time and effort.

It is to understand that ‘truth takes courage’ and sometimes courage is taught.  It is to appreciate that as counsellors, we have an opportunity to provide our clients with the experience of acceptance, respect, honour and compassion.

It is to let them know we are not the teachers of who or what they are, but they are the ones who teach us.  They know the truth….we stand ready to bear witness and walk beside them as they embark on the path of healing.

We value who they are and delight in the gifts they have to offer the world!
We take responsibility to learn as much as we can about human behavior and to be prepared with our knowledge and wisdom when a client arrives at our office door.

And we are humbled by the position of honour we can play in their lives!
